If history is important to you, you'll appreciate that Bon Ton has been teasing Vancouver's sweet tooth since 1926. Tempting cakes, pies, cookies and pastries fill the cases, so good luck choosing just one. The Diplomat Cake comes highly recommended, and the macaroons are wonderfully light and tender.

KITSILANO. When writer Ernestine Ulmer said, "Life is uncertain, eat dessert first," she surely would have high-tailed it to Sweet Obession to indulge. Self-educated pastry chef Lorne Tyczenski offers a mouthwatering array of cakes, tarts and flans that will satisy even the most sophisticated of dessert connoisseurs. The 16-seat cafe is next door to its full service partner Trafalgar's Bistro and provides their tasty treats as well. Hint: the selections at Sweet Obsession are slightly lower priced than at the Bistro but are the same.

KITSILANO. The crusty, hearth-baked breads that emerge from this restaurant's stone-deck oven are unparalleled. Baguettes are made in an authentic French-style, using only unbleached flour without additives, fillers or preservatives. It should be no surprise that the sandwiches made with these delectable breads are simply outstanding, and the sweet treats are irresistible.

Homemade desserts are all you'll find on the menu here, but don't let that fool you into thinking that making a decision will be easier. About 50 assorted goodies are on-hand at any given time. Dense Montreal style cheesecakes, fresh fruit pies, foot high layer cakes, traditional English trifle, tiramisu and more line the display cases.
